The statutory duty of candour was introduced to all CQC-registered healthcare organisations in April 2015, and encompasses general dental practices.
The statutory duty applies to organisations rather than individuals. However, you still have your own ethical duty to be honest and open with patients when something goes wrong and take part in any investigation so that lessons can be learned.
Our dento-legal guide to statutory duty of candour provides more detailed information, and the GDC has its own guide on being open and honest with patients when something goes wrong.
